Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES) 2017

2017學年度教育部華語文獎學金



Purpose
The purpose of the Ministry of Education (MOE) Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES) is to encourage American students and individuals to undertake Mandarin Chinese language training and courses at Chinese language institutes affiliated with universities or colleges in the Republic of China (Taiwan).

Availabilities
There are twelve (12) openings available for MOE HES 2017-2018. Each applicant may select from the following durations: 2 months (summer courses), 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, or 12 months. Eligible applicants from Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas are welcome to submit applications.

Eligibility
1.      Applicants must be American nationals, above the age of eighteen (18), with a high school diploma or higher degree, must have excellent academic records, and must be of good moral character.
2.       Applicants are ineligible if they meet any of the following restrictions:
l   overseas Chinese or nationals of the Republic of China (Taiwan);
l   students who are currently registered at any universities/colleges or enrolled in Mandarin language training programs in Taiwan;
l   individuals who have received an MOE HES or MOE Taiwan Scholarship in the past;
l   exchange or dual/joint degree students admitted in accordance with academic cooperation agreements between local universities/colleges and foreign universities/colleges;
l   individuals who are currently receiving financial benefits from the Taiwanese government or any educational institutions in Taiwan.

Duration
1.     Each applicant must select the duration of the scholarship for which they will apply. Study period may vary based on the duration selected, as described below:

2 months: Limited to summer courses from June to July, 2017 or from July to August, 2017

3 months, 6 months and 9 months: Courses between September 1, 2017 and August 31, 2018 (academic year 2016-2017)
12 months:Courses from September 1, 2017 to August 31, 2018 (academic year 2017-2018)

2.     The Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston reserves the right to decide the duration of scholarship for successful candidates.

Award Value
1.    Each scholarship recipient will receive monthly stipends of 25,000 New Taiwan Dollars (NTD) in conjunction with the duration of scholarship approved.
2.      The foreign exchange rate from USD to NTD is estimated at 1 to 30. The actual exchange rate is subject to currency fluctuations.

Application
1.          Required documents:
l  a completed HES Application Form 2017-2018, signed and dated by the applicant
l  a photocopy of the applicant’s passport or other documents that can verify the nationality of the applicant
l  a photocopy of the certificate of the applicant’s highest degree obtained and original academic transcripts from that institution. Note: Transcripts must be sealed and signed/stamped by the institutions that issue the documents. Transcripts that are issued by international educational institutions must be presented in English language and authenticated by an overseas Representative Office of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
l  proof of application to language centers in Taiwan (e.g. photocopies of application form, a notice or e-mail from the language centers acknowledging their receipt of the application, etc.)
l  two letters of recommendation, sealed and signed by the writers
l  original Ministry of Education Huayu Enrichment Scholarship Program Terms of Agreement, signed and dated by the applicant
2.          Submission:
l  Applications will be accepted between February 1, 2017 and March 31, 2017.
l  Applicants must directly apply for admission to language centers on the List of Language Center. Proof of application for admission to language centers is required for the HES application.
l  Applications must be sent to the following office and postmarked no later than March 31, 2017 at:

l  Two-month scholarship applicants MUST submit a photocopy of the admission letter that is issued by the language center upon their application for the HES.

Selection
1.     Applications are considered complete when all of the aforementioned Required Documents have been submitted. Incomplete applications or those missing required documents will be withdrawn from the selection process without further notice to the applicants.
2.    Documents will be reviewed during the preliminary selection process and interviews with qualified candidates via internet or telephone may be required for final selection process.
3.       Late applications will not be considered for the selection.

1.      The application instructions are given in Chinese and English and, in the event of any discrepancy, the Chinese version will take precedence over the English text.

    2017學年度教育部臺灣獎學金

    Application period: February 1, 2017 - March 31, 2017


    Purpose
    The purpose of the Ministry of Education (MOE) Taiwan Scholarship is to encourage outstanding American students and individuals to pursue degree programs in the Republic of China (Taiwan).

    Availabilities
    There are six (6) openings available for the MOE Taiwan Scholarship 2017-2018. Eligible individuals from Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas are welcome to submit applications.

    Eligibility
    1.        Applicants must be American nationals with a high-school diploma or post-secondary degree(s), have excellent academic records and be of good moral character.
    2.        Applicants are ineligible if they meet any of the following restrictions:
    loverseas Chinese students or nationals of the Republic of China (Taiwan);
    lstudents who are currently registered or have obtained student status at any universities/colleges in Taiwan (graduating students pursuing further studies are exempt from this rule);
    lstudents who have studied in Taiwan for the same level of degree program as the one they intend to enroll;
    lexchange or dual/joint degree students admitted in accordance with academic cooperation agreements between local universities/colleges and foreign universities/colleges;
    lindividuals who have been recipients of the MOE Taiwan Scholarship for over a total of five (5) years;
    lindividuals who have, in the past, had their MOE Taiwan Scholarship or MOE Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES) revoked;
    lrecipients of any other scholarship or subsidy funded by the Taiwan government or educational institutions in Taiwan. However, this does not include preferential prices offered by universities/colleges to cover tuition and other fees exceeding this scholarship limit.
    3.        Applicants should apply directly for admission within the application periods specified by each university/college.

    Scholarship Duration and Limits
    1.        The maximum scholarship duration on each degree level for each recipient is as the following:
                   (1)     Four (4) years for bachelor’s degree programs
                   (2)     Two (2) years for master’s degree programs
                   (3)     Four (4) years for doctoral programs
    2.        The total length of the scholarship duration for each recipient is limited to five (5) years in a combination of different degree levels.
    3.        The scholarship award period for each academic year is from September 1 to August 31 of the following year.

    Award Value
    The MOE provides each recipient of the MOE Taiwan Scholarship with the following:
    1.   Tuitionandfees:Upon validationoftuitionandfees, the MOEwill pay upto40,000 New Taiwan Dollar (NTD) each semester for each recipient.Shouldthetotalamountof tuition and fees exceed40,000 NTD, theremainderof allcostsshallbecoveredbytherecipient.Tuitionandfeesdonot includeanyofthe following:administrationfees,thesisadvisingfees, insurancepremiums,accommodation, or internetaccess,allofwhichare must be paidbytherecipients.
    2.    Subsistenceallowance: TheMOEwill provideeachrecipientundertaking undergraduatestudies with amonthlystipendof15,000 NTD;it will provideeach recipientundertakingpostgraduatestudies with amonthlystipendof 20,000 NTD.

    Application
    1.         Required documents:
                  (1)      A completed Taiwan Scholarship Application Form 2017-2018 (can be downloaded athttp://www.moetw.org/search/label/Scholarships);
                  (2)      a copy of the applicant’s passport or other documents that can verify the nationality of the applicant;
                  (3)      a copy of the certificate of the applicant’s highest degree obtained and academic transcripts from that institution. Documents in a language other than English must be translated into English and the translated documents must be authenticated by an overseas Representative Office of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
                  (4)      a copy of proof of application for admission to universities/colleges in Taiwan (e.g. photocopies of application form, a notice or e-mail from the universities/colleges acknowledging their receipt of the application, etc.) The name of the school and program must be specified in those documents;
                  (5)      For applications to any program that is not taught exclusively in English, applicants must submit a copy of the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) certificate of Level 3 or above. If a copy of the aforementioned certificate is not submitted, the applicant shall apply for the TOCFL test at his/her own expense and submit the test results or certificate to the school by the end of the first semester after arriving in Taiwan;
                  (6)      For applications to an all-English program, the TOCFL certificate of Level 3 may be exempt;
                  (7)      two letters of recommendation from school principals, professors, academic counselors, or supervisors. Letters must be signed and sealed by the writers. Photocopies and e-mail submissions will NOT be considered;
                  (8)      Statement of Purpose; and
                  (9)      Ministry of Education Taiwan Scholarship Program Terms of Agreement, signed and dated by the applicant;
    Note: The required documents will not be returned to applicants.
    2.         Submission (*Late applications will NOT be considered for the selection):
                   (1)     Applications must be submitted between February 1, 2017 and March 31, 2017.
                   (2)     Application packages must be addressed to the following office and postmarked no later than March 31, 2017:

    Selection Criteria
    1.    Recipients’ academic goals should reflect an interest in the development of the industry, economy and education of Taiwan.
    2.    Recipients should possess an outstanding undergraduate or postgraduate Grade Point Average (GPA).
    3.    Priority will be given to applicants with a TOCFL certificate of Level 3 or above.
    4.    Applications must be completed with all the required documents attached. Incomplete applications or those missing required documents will be withdrawn from the selection process without further notice to the applicants.
    5.    Interviews with qualified candidates in person or via internet/telephone may be required for the final selection process.

    國立澎湖科技大學徵求新任校長人選啟事

    一、國立澎湖科技大學現任校長任期將於106731日屆滿,本委員會特依據「國立澎湖科技大學組織規程」第四條及「國立澎湖科技大學校長遴選暨續任評鑑辦法」等規定,公開徵求推薦新任校長人選。
    二、校長人選除須符合「教育人員任用條例」第10條規定任用資格及其他相關法令規定者外,並應具備下列條件:
    ()具有卓越之行政領導及溝通協調能力。
    ()具有前瞻明確之辦學理念。
    ()具有公認之學術成就及專業聲望。
    ()具有爭取及妥善運用資源之能力。
    ()健全之身心與高尚之品德情操。
         ()處事公正且能超越政治、宗教、黨派等營利單位等利益。已兼任前述機關團體職務者,須書面承諾於應聘校長前辭去兼職,就任校長期間亦不得兼任。
    三、新任校長人選推薦連署方式如下列三種方式之一:
    ()本校專任教師十人以上連署推薦者。
    ()校外專任助理教授以上或學術研究機構相當助理研究員以上至少五人連署
       推薦者。
    ()本校畢業校友二十人以上連署推薦者。
    同一連署人以推薦一名候選人為限,同時為二人以上連署時,其連署無效。
    遴委會之委員不得參與連署推薦。
    推薦資料送達遴委會後,連署人非經遴委會同意不得以任何理由要求撤回或撤銷連署。推薦校長人選應經被推薦人親筆簽名同意。
    校長參選人應向遴委會提供「基本資料表」、「著作或作品或發明目錄」、「學術獎勵及榮譽事蹟」、「治校理念摘要」、「相關承諾」以及「推薦人連署推薦表」 (均詳如附件),並請檢附「最高學歷證件及相關經歷、著作、榮譽事蹟、獎勵等資料影本」。

    2017年德州中文教師研討會 講師陣容堅強

    駐休士頓台北經濟文化辦事處教育組與德州中文教師學會(Chinese Language Teachers Association of Texas, CLTA-TX)及聖湯瑪斯大學國際研究中心合作辦理的「2017年德州中文教師研討會 (2017 Houston Chinese Language teacher PD workshop) 」於2017115 (星期日) 在休士頓聖湯瑪斯大學舉行,共計吸引了近百名華語教師報名參加。

    研討會當天適逢休士頓馬拉松活動,聖湯瑪斯大學周邊多數道路因被劃為比賽路線而封路。雖然因此造成出席的不便,但依然不減參與教師的熱情,大家準時抵達會場,展開一整天的訓練及交流。駐休士頓台北經濟文化辦事處黃敏境處長也十分重視這項活動,特別於上午9點蒞臨為開幕致詞。研討會更首度邀請到全美外語教學協會( American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, ACTFL)主席Desa Dawson 進行專題演講,這次的研習會是她擔任主席以來的第一項活動,足見她對華語教育的重視。



    德州中文教師學會每年會在德州不同的城市舉辦年會和各種教師研討會,今年研討會移師到休士頓舉行,由多位資深的大學教授、校長和老師擔任培訓講師,師資陣容堅強。除了休士頓地區的華語教師踴躍參與外,更有教師遠從達拉斯、奧斯汀及奧克拉荷馬等地前來參加。本次研討會除了提供增進華語教學專業技能的機會,也提供給美南地區華語教師一個交流教學經驗,建立人脈的平台。

    臺灣留學生企業觀摩收穫豐碩

    為提供臺灣留學生企業觀摩交流機會,讓同學能實地走訪休士頓本地企業,並與優秀企業人士座談,駐休士頓台北經濟文化辦事處教育組於120(星期五) 上午10時特別安排臺灣同學參訪Academy Bio-Medical Company, Inc. 及 亞洲化學公司 (Asia Chemical Corporation, Inc.),由兩位企業創辦人楊朝諭教授、楊朝諄董事長分享創業經驗,吸引了來自大休士頓地區、奧斯汀及大學城8所學校,30餘名臺灣同學報名參加。


    楊朝諭教授及楊朝諄董事長及公司重要主管親自歡迎台灣同學的到來,除了詳細介紹了公司的產品及發展,也與同學們分享在美創業的心路歷程。與會同學在聽完兩位創辦人的分享後,也紛紛展現的對創業的興趣,頻頻舉手發問,向兩位前輩請教在美創業的訣竅。駐休士頓台北經濟文化辦事處黃敏境處長也十分重視這項活動,親自到場對兩位創辦人為臺灣學生們熱誠地分享個人成功經驗表達感謝。

    創傷與腦神經科學影響孩童學習力

    人類最卓越的特點就是擁有靈活的大腦神經可塑性就是所謂人類大腦對新環境調整的能力此能力經過一代一代戲劇性的變化,將人類社會的演變從狩獵時代轉變成都市化人類大腦最具有延展性的部分是我們的新皮質其功能為儲存與吸收大腦知識而這項能力可以使人類創造語言發展民主制度,並造就了成千上萬的發明。

    事實上最了不起的發明是公共教育,利用腦神經皮質系統性、結構性的認知能力,加上運用社會經驗,提高孩童學習數學、歷史以及科學的知識與技能,促使上百萬學童擁有豐富的想像力及創造力,改變了全世界

    教育成功的關鍵取決於大腦皮質容量的開發近年來全美三分之一公立學校的孩童遭受家庭暴力被忽略濫用、及種種逆境,導致大腦皮質功能受損。了解創傷對孩童腦部的影響以及此影響如何提升公共教育,有助改變學生的學習能力。

    環境對於腦部的發展有很大的影響孩提時代生長在和樂融融的家庭受到照顧與支持可以幫助孩童建立健全的思想與行為發展出完善的壓力反應機制學習與成長經驗是塑造孩子未來正面行為的重要因素

    不可預測的壓力或創傷容易影響低收入戶家庭孩童的學習。腦神經網絡會因為壓力而無法正常運作導致情緒行為與學習的問題。創傷刺激促成大腦皮質暫時關閉運作功能,造成孩童認知能力及學習閱讀的困難。

    受過創傷的孩童通常注意力較鬆散,因為孩童會把注意力放在老師的動作、聲音及臉部表情上。除非老師採用適當的調整方式,例如:呼吸調節、冥想及其他各種的調節活動否則學生只會繼續停留在緊繃以及不健全的學習狀態。創傷對學生在課業上的理解甚至是在未來的成就都有很大的影響。即使學生沒有受過嚴重傷害但在貧窮的環境下成長依舊會使學生在學習上落後以及惡性循環導致部分學生輟學。

    幸好近年來有許多政策以及方案協助學校老師了解種種傷害對學生的嚴重性並針對不同學生運用適合的方案幫助他們走出困境。不斷提升教育方案可以使孩童健全的成長並且協助他們激發潛能。

    德州教育委員會否決族裔研究教科書

    (2016)11月,美國德州教育委員會以140的票數,一致通過否決美籍-墨西哥裔研究教科書提案。專家指出,該教科書充斥著錯誤資訊以及反西裔人口的偏頗想法。

    兩年前(2014),由共和黨主導的德州教育委員會否決為州設計美籍-墨西哥裔研究課程。反之,委員會要求出版商提出族裔研究教科書,以作為高中課程設計依據。當時唯一一本提交給委員會的美籍-墨西哥裔研究書籍「美籍墨西哥裔傳統」,遭到否決。學校及行動派人士指出,該書涵蓋太多錯誤訊息,包括:墨西哥移民很「懶惰」等。該書自提案起,即引起諸多爭議及反彈,內容包括:將美籍-墨西哥裔均視為非法移民以及該族裔的「明天再說文化(a culture of mañana)」造成許多美國經濟及安全問題,如貧窮、毒品、犯罪等。

    前保守派委員會委員辛提亞˙敦巴(Cynthia Dunbar),其旗下出版該書的公司,收到其將面臨法律相關訴訟的威脅。

    Teaching in Taiwan Program

    Applications are accepted between March 1 and April 30 every year.

    Program Introduction
    In an effort to enhance the English learning environments for school-aged children, Taiwan Ministry of Education has been actively recruiting qualified American teachers to teach in K-9 public schools in Taiwan.

    The goals of the program are to broaden English immersion experiences to Taiwan's young minds and to establish inter-school relationships between Taiwan and the United States. Applicants with bachelor’s or higher degrees and valid teaching licenses issued by US Department of Education are welcome to apply.

    Benefits for each teacher may include subsidy of round-trip airfare, housing stipends, overtime pay, insurance, and monthly salary remunerated upon their educational background, teaching experiences, and scope of job duties; however, these benefits may be varied from district to district. The intangible benefits to teachers include intimate exposure to the rich heritage and natural beauty of Taiwan as well as to the world-renowned cuisine and local delicacies.

    Duration
    The program duration is one academic year basis from August of the year of application to July of the following year. Contracts may be renewed subject to agreements between teachers and schools.

    New Teacher Orientation
    Notice of acceptance will be sent to successful candidates at the end of May of the year of application. Taiwan Ministry of Education will facilitate an orientation in the middle of August upon teachers' arrival in Taiwan. Information on the orientation will be distributed to teachers before their departures to Taiwan. The agenda of the orientation may include:

    • Introduction of life in Taiwan
    • Differences between Taiwan and USA
    • Frequently asked questions including taxes, housing, mobile phones, driver license, banking account, etc.
    • Useful information for foreign teachers in Taiwan
    • Short lessons of survival Chinese
    • Workshop for teaching English in Taiwan including lesson plan, classroom management, etc.

    Q/A   What is the Teaching in Taiwan program?
    This program provides experienced and newly licensed American teachers the opportunity to teach in Taiwanese schools for one academic year.  Participants will work with local Taiwanese teachers to develop a curriculum and teach English to students in grade levels 1 to 9.
    Q/A   Who is eligible to participate?
    Any licensed American teacher may apply to participate in this program.  This includes experienced teachers or new teachers with an initial teaching license. Preference will be given toapplicants who are experienced in teaching English as a native language or teaching English as a second language.
    Q/A   What are the requirements?
    All applicants must:
    1.         have obtained a bachelor’s degree or higher,
    2.         be a certified teacher,
    3.         commit to abide by the laws and regulations of Republic of China (Taiwan),
    4.         be competent in interpersonal and communication skills,
    5.         demonstrate understanding and be respectful of the local culture.
    Q/A   How do I apply for the program?

    Each year, a selection committee fromTaiwan MOE will choose about 80 teachers to participate in this program

    All teachers selected to participate in this program will sign a 12-month contract with school or local government to teach in Taiwan.  The contract runs from August to July of the following year.
    Q/A    What will my work week be like?
    Teachers are required to work 40 hours a week, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.
    Q/A   What would my responsibilities be in Taiwan?
    Each American teacher will be paired with a Taiwanese classroom teacher. 
    In addition to providing English language instruction, each American teacher will work with Taiwanese educators to develop a curriculum, prepare lesson plans and teaching materials, conduct classes, and evaluate student progress.
    Q/A   How will I be compensated for my work in Taiwan?
    Teachers who participate in this programwill receive compensation on round-trip air tickets,monthly salary, housing stipend, health insurance, and labor insurance.
    Each teacher’s salary level will be determined based onhis/her teaching experience andeducation. Salary ranges are from TWD62,720 to TWD73,025 per month. **Note: Exchange rate for United States Dollar (USD) to Taiwan Dollar (TWD) is estimated 1USD to 30TWD. The actual exchange rate is subject to change.**
    Teachers who receive a grade“A”performance after 12 months of teaching in the program will be provided a bonus equivalent to onemonth salary.
    Q/A   What are living costs in Taiwan?
    Total expenses for a month could be as little as US$550, for a single.  However, it is more realistic to expect US$690 to $850 per month.

    Schools or local government will help with housing/dormitory arrangement for teachers, whichever is applicable. Otherwise, a rent allowance will be provided as a stipend.

    駐休士頓臺北經濟文化辦事處教育組訂於 2017年3月25日(星期六)上午10時假休士頓大學城中校區 【University of Houston – Downtown, 地址: One Main Street, Suite GSB311 (3F, Girard Street Building), Houston, TX 77002】 舉辦2017年休士頓電腦化華語文能力測驗 (Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language,簡稱TOCFL」。

    為對應「歐洲語言學習、教學、評量共同參考架構 (CEFR)」,華語測驗共分為三等六級。三等分別為入門基礎級、進階高階級及流利精通級,而每一等又可再依據測驗成績細分為兩級,分別為入門級、基礎級、進階級、高階級、流利級、精通級,共六級。依據美國大學理事會(College Board) 公布關於中文預修 (AP Chinese Language and Culture)的課程說明,學生接受AP課程結束後的程度,接近全美外語教學協會 (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, ACTFL)語言能力指標 (Proficiency Guidelines) 的中高級程度(Intermediate high),對應於華語測驗考試進階級(Level 3)。意即若學生能通過華語測驗的進階級,其程度相當於可通過中文AP考試。請參閱對照表。

    2017 Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) is now accepting applications

    The Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Culture Office (TECO) in Houston will administer the 2017 Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the University of Houston – Downtown One Main Street, Suite GSB311 (3F, Girard Street Building), Houston, TX 77002 / phone: 713-221-8027.

    The TOCFLis intended for those that wish to measure their Chinese proficiencyand is available in both traditional and simplified character versions.  Since 2014, the levels of the TOCFL have been reformed in order to correspond to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment).The new version of the TOCFL has three proficiency bands: Band A, Band B, and Band C. Each of the bands has two levels.

    According to the AP Course Description, “Course work provides students with opportunities to perform Intermediate- to Advanced-level tasks, and students are expected to achieve proficiencies throughout, and sometimes beyond, the Intermediate range, as described in the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Proficiency Guidelines.” Therefore, if the students want to pass the AP test, they have to reach the intermediate level of the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines, which corresponds to level 3 of the TOCFL. The students could take the TOCFL as a practice test for AP test preparation.

    Examinees who pass the test will receive a Chinese Proficiency Certificate as a credential for the followings:
    • Becoming eligible for the “Taiwan Scholarship” and “Ministry of Education Huayu Enrichment Scholarship” sponsored by the government and for studying in Taiwan.
    • Qualifying for admission to academic programs at colleges or universities in Taiwan.
    • Serving as a job-required proof of Chinese language proficiency for individuals who wish to obtain Chinese-inclusive, bilingual employment globally.
    • Providing an incentive to those who are interested in learning Chinese.

    TOCFL will be administered via the Internet. There are two sections (listening and reading) which take a total of about two hours to complete. Please see http://www.sc-top.org.tw for the mock-test.

    Registration is accepted from February 1 to February25, 2017. Please register at the website: https://usa.sc-top.org.tw/.  In order to complete the registration process, please print out the registration form and mail it along with the registration fee to Education Division, TECO in Houston (11 Greenway Plaza, Suite 2012, Houston, TX 77046) before 02/28/2017. The registration will be cancelled if the examinees fail to submit the registration fee before 02/28/2017.

    東港高中夜抵休士頓機場倍感歡迎熱情

    為拓展學生國際視野,深入了解異國文化,培育具國家認同、國際素養、全球競合力及責任感的國際化人才,屏東縣立東港高中師生一行19人在郝靜宜校長率領之下,於2017年2月1日深夜抵達休士頓喬治布希國際機場。計畫與德州福遍郡姊妹校佛斯特高中(Forster High School)進行為期2週的教育交流活動。佛斯特高中齊平(Gerard Kipping)校長、麥道威(Leslie Lynn McDowell)副校長,以及全力促成這項交流的駐休士頓辦事處教育組周慧宜組長、鍾慧秘書都親自到機場迎接,東港高中師生馬上感受到歡迎的熱情。

    這項教育交流計畫源自於2015年4月,駐休士頓辦事處教育組安排協助德州福遍郡拉瑪聯合獨立學區(Lamar Consolidated Independent School District)總監藍道博士(Dr. Thomas Randle)訪問臺灣,與屏東縣政府教育處簽署教育合作備忘錄,經教育組持續追蹤聯繫,雙方選定佛斯特高中(Foster High School)及東港高中作為雙邊教育交流的姐妹學校。拉瑪學區主管中學教育的赫克(Leslie Jo Haack)主任也在去(2016)年9月專程拜訪東港高中,親自研商合作細節。

    東港高中15名學生在到訪德州之前,便透過社群媒體與佛斯特高中接待家庭展開聯繫。學生對於即將見面、共同參與高中課程,充滿期待。此行接待家庭將提供東港高中學生住宿及交通協助,並介紹德州特色,如:農莊生活、牛仔文化、太空中心及休士頓運動、石油、醫療等產業。由於時值農曆春節期間,接待家庭也藉此機會與東港高中學生深入瞭解台灣年節習俗文化。這項教育交流深具意義,並將持續推廣,預計喬治農莊高中(George Ranch High School)在明(2018)年1月間將加入佛斯特高中行列,共同組團前往屏東縣東港高中訪問。


    2017 Houston Chinese language teacher professional development workshop was a complete success

    In an effort to enhance the quality of the Chinese language teaching at all education levels and conduct professional development for Chinese teachers in both language teaching and cultural awareness, the Chinese Language Teachers Association of Texas (CLTA-TEXAS), along with the Education Division of Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Houston (TECO in Houston) and the Center for International Studies at the University of St. Thomas, co-hosted a the Chinese language teacher professional development workshop on January 15, 2017 at University of St. Thomas. There were more than seventy Chinese language teachers who participated in the workshop this year.

    Director General Louis Huang of the TECO in Houston gave a warm welcome to all attendees who took a Sunday to learn more about teaching the Chinese language. “The United States and Taiwan have enjoyed a strong friendship for decades, nurtured by vibrant exchanges of culture, education, and trade.” he said. “To do our part in facilitating these exchanges, TECO offers scholarships and helps organize the administration of the TOCFL exam. TECO is proud to provide these services for students and the community. We hope to always find ways to make learning about the Chinese language and culture more accessible.”

    The President of the American Council on the Teachings of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), Ms. Desa Dawson, was invited to give a keynote speech at the beginning of the workshop. This was the first event that Ms. Dawson has attended after she assumed office as the president of the ACTFL and she was very happy to share her experiences in foreign language education with all the teachers devoted to Chinese language teaching.


    This workshop provides an opportunity for information, training, and networking. Participants from not only Houston, but also Austin, Dallas, and even Oklahoma City at all education levels had the chance to get together and shared their experience and knowledge in Chinese language teaching. They all enjoyed the inspiring lectures and conversations together during this workshop.


    明道國小扯鈴隊新春德州巡演可愛指數破表

    台北市文山區明道國小扯鈴隊一行16人在陳顯榮校長的率領下於201721日抵達休士頓,展開為期9天的德州交流巡演之旅。

    明道國小扯鈴隊成立已經將近30年,透過扯鈴隊的訓練,可以加強學童體能及手眼協調能力的訓練,專注力的培養及意志力的鍛鍊,更可以發揮團隊合作的精神與默契,是一項值得大力推廣的文化技藝活動。



    此次明道國小巡演城市包含:達拉斯、奧斯汀、聖安東尼奧、以及休士頓。21日深夜抵達休士頓當天,駐休士頓辦事處教育組周慧宜組長特別到機場歡迎這群小小嘉賓。小朋友天真稚嫩的臉龐,推著幾乎與身高差不多的行李箱,還沒進行扯鈴表演,可愛指數已經破表。

    在駐休士頓教育組安排下,明道國小扯鈴隊27日搭機離開休士頓當天,仍把握僅有的機會與休士頓中文沉浸學校(Mandarin Immersion Magnet School, MIMS)進行示範教學及教育交流。當天晚上駐休士頓辦事處黃敏境處長也特別安排德州BBQ風味餐招待這群明道國小鈴隊的同學作為鼓勵。

    報名及聯絡方式
    一、報名方式:
    符合上述資格條件且具意願者,請一律以書面郵寄報名,於106319日前(郵戳為憑)檢具相關證明文件,掛號寄至高雄市807三民區九如一路720號人事室黃小姐收,並於信封左下角註明『應徵科技教育組副研究員』。
    ※報名應檢具相關證明文件如下(請以A4紙張依序裝訂):
    1.本館副研究員甄選報名表(請務必至本館網站下載使用)。
    2.副教授證書。
    3.2年以上教學證明文件。
    4.曾取得並擔任計畫主持人之研究計畫清單。
    5.國民身分證正反面影本。
    6.男性服完兵役或免服兵役者,請檢附相關證明文件。
    7.最高學歷畢業證書影本(如持有國外學歷者,請於錄取後備妥中文譯本及經我國駐外館處認證之國外學校學位證書、歷年成績單影本、國外修業情形一覽表及個人出入境紀錄。繳交之證件如有虛偽不實等情事者,取消錄取資格,且所衍生之相關法律責任由應徵者自行負責)
    8.個人自傳(請務必清楚敘明科學演示及教學經驗、學識及實務相關經驗、家庭概況、其他學經歷、個人專長、報考動機、個人理念及工作期許)。
    9.個人Email帳號及可聯繫之手機或電話號碼。
    10.推薦函二封(應由推薦人親筆簽名及密封)
    11.如有相關專業證照亦請檢附影本。
    12.其他。
    二、應徵者資格審查結果及甄選日期:
    應徵者繳交資料經審查符合本館需求者,將於本館網站「最新消息區」公告且應徵者亦可憑身分證字號至本館首頁→「單一窗口服務」→「申辦進度查詢」→「求才處理進度查詢」(http://www3.nstm.gov.tw/careers/query.asp)。
    三、甄選結果:於本館最新消息區公告錄取名單。
    1.本次甄選正取1名,並視甄選成績擇優備取1名,備取期間自錄取名單公告之翌日起3個月內。
    2.參加甄選人員條件如不符本館需求,本館得斟酌情況從缺之。
    四、其他:
    1.繳交之各項證件,如有虛偽不實等情事者,取消甄選資格;如經錄取,取消錄取資格,且所衍伸之相關法律責任由應徵者自行負責。
